The earth keeps on trembling from that terrible Wednesday, August 24, 2016 when a magnitude 6 earthquake struck Central Italy. Further powerful tremors struck on October 26 and 30, inflicting yet more damage on a region and a population already struggling to cope. A situation that got even worse on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 when, after the heavy snowfall that affected the same areas of Central Italy, there were new and strong earthquakes. The inhabitants of the areas affected are in need of long-term assistance and the territory needs to return to live. All donations to this fund will support only relief and recovery activities in the affected areas, some already been completed.

What we are doing

The latest projects will be dedicated to the area of Norcia where has been started  the construction of a wooden and glass Exhibitions Pavilion by architect Stefano Boeri and a school that will host 180 students from 9 classes.

A new canteen for school children and citizens and a food village, with  eight restaurants that will employ more than 100 people, designed by architect Boeri, were presented on December 23, 2016 in Amatrice, while a school has been built and presented to the citizens on November 29, 2016  in Arquata del Tronto. A school that is now  used as a civic center and that in the new year will hopefully host students now forced to move to San Benedetto del Tronto. These are the projects that have been financed thanks to the donations collected through Un aiuto subito.

The projects have been chosen depending on a range of factors (funds gathered, emergencies, priorities, validity of the individual projects) in order to help the population to go back to normal.

Un aiuto subito was set up in 1997 by Corriere della Sera e TgLa7, immediately following the Umbria and Marche earthquake, and remains ready to swing into action whenever such terrible events strike and the people and territories require the solidarity of the nation. TIM, through its crowdfunding platform WithYouWeDo, decided to participate in this initiative after the Amatrice earthquake to provide a new, simple, fast and secure way to donate by credit card.

The funds received so far have all been used to help the affected populations (here are some of the sponsored projects) and the editorial directors of Corriere della Sera and TgLa7 stand as guarantors.

Thank you for your support and stay tuned!
